Installed does not always mean available

Tokyo Metro publishes both accessibility information and elevator maintenance notices. Check both for your travel date. This guide does not provide live equipment status or guarantee an available route.

Check all four parts

An elevator on one part of a journey does not prove the whole transfer is step-free. Continue checking when the route changes operators.

A continuous-route checklist
PartWhat to establish
Platform to gateWhich elevator serves the platform and where it leads.
Gate to streetWhether you need a different street exit.
Transfer passageAny stairs, ticket gates, or detours along the transfer.
Street to destinationThe building entrance is separate from station accessibility information.

Explain the journey when asking for assistance

JR East asks wheelchair users to speak to station staff for boarding and alighting assistance. Explain the origin, destination, transfer, and assistance needed. Another passenger’s experience is not a promise about your particular journey.

A different exit changes the street route

After using a different elevator, check which side of the street you reached and whether you need a crossing. Allow time for the detour rather than rushing onto stairs with heavy luggage. Recheck old screenshots against current signs and staff guidance.
